Family and relatives

Vocabulary

The above flashcards introduce vocabulary for family and relatives. Relationships are often made more precise by adding parentage: for instance, your maternal grandfather is your mother's father, while a paternal aunt is typically your father's sister or the wife of your father's brother.

Plurals

A regular plural is one that is obtained by adding "s" or "es" to a singular noun; an irregular plural is one that is not obtained this way. English has many irregular plurals, and the plurals of some of the words in the flashcards are irregular; examples are the plurals of "man", "woman", and "child", as well as those of relatives acquired by marriage, collectively called "in-laws". You can practice all of these using the flashcard app that begins this section.

Spelling

Using the app above, you can practice the spellings of the vocabulary items and their plurals that were introduced in the previous sections.
