Colors

Vocabulary

Above we provide flashcards for some basic colors. In English, it is common to use combinations of basic colors such as "yellow-green". We also use the terms "light" and "dark" to qualify colors, as, for example, in describing the sky as "light blue" or summer foliage as "dark green". Many colors are named for those of metals, for instance "gold" and "silver". We also name colors for familiar objects, such as "lime" and "olive" (both are shades of green).

The colors displayed in the flashcards are from the set of 140 named colors supported by modern browsers. If you're curious to see all 140 named colors, visit htmlcolorcodes.com and select the Names tab.

Spelling

You can practice the spellings of the colors introduced in the previous section using the dictation app above. All spellings are assumed to be in lowercase letters.
